1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Graceville Library offers this great program. What is our goal? Our goal is to provide a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills. We help young children gain the confidence necessary to become strong readers. Please stop in and talk to one of the staff about enrolling your child in this free program today.
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. that is 730 books in two years and 1095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think, so get started!
Go to your library to get your bag and folder with all the information that you need to help get you started. You will be given a log sheet to write all the books down that you read to your child. Return the completed log sheet to the library. There are incentives for the child for every 100 books read. Once they reach 1000 books, they will receive a big prize at the end and a medal of completion.

Bloocks Rock!

Kids bring in your friends, brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, or whoever you’d like to play, with this fun new game that is now set up in the back of the library at the large table. Challenge each other and have some fun with this competitive, educational game in which two player or two teams of players compete to build a color-and shape-specific structure in the shortest amount of time.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

From all the staff at the Graceville Library, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Have a great weekend everybody!!

Kids, bring your friends in after school with you and play this fun new game and race to see who can build their blocks up the fastest! You will have an even amount of blocks to work with, and a bell is centered between the players. Players take turns flipping over cards. The players then build up the blocks to match the picture on the card. But its more than just that. The blocks should be touching to consist of a successful build. Once the blocks are built then the player who finishes the structure hits the bell and wins the round. If the structure isn’t accurate, the game will continue, and either player has the option to keep building or ring the bell. The player who wins the round keeps the card. At the end of the game, each player adds up his/her cards at the higher total wins.

Due to some work in the city this Saturday, there will be no power to building for several hours, the library will have no electricity and will be closed for the day. We will resume opening on the following Tuesday.

If you are taking exams classes from a remote institution, you may need to take a proctored exam. Graceville Library offers a proctoring service to the public. This is a free service. For more information on what you need to do, please call the library at 320-748-7332. We believe in higher learning and support lifelong learning goals! One more of the many great things your library can do for you!
